The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has successfully carried out a flight test of its locally developed “Taimoor” weapon system, the military’s media wing announced on Saturday.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) described the test as a major step forward in strengthening Pakistan’s indigenous aerospace and defence capabilities.
According to ISPR, the Taimoor air-launched cruise missile can accurately strike both land and maritime targets at a distance of up to 600 kilometres and is fitted with a conventional payload. The missile incorporates advanced navigation and guidance technology and is engineered to operate at extremely low altitudes, allowing it to bypass enemy air and missile defence networks.
The statement said the missile’s precision-strike capability significantly boosts the PAF’s conventional deterrence and enhances its operational flexibility, contributing to a stronger overall defence posture.
ISPR added that the successful test reflects the growing technological sophistication, innovation, and self-reliance of Pakistan’s defence industry. Senior officers from the armed forces, along with leading scientists and engineers involved in the project, witnessed the launch.
Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu congratulated the scientists, engineers, and PAF personnel on the achievement, praising their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to reinforcing the country’s defence strength. He said such successes highlight Pakistan’s determination to attain technological independence and sustain a credible conventional deterrent amid a changing regional security landscape.
President Asif Ali Zardari also lauded the PAF on the successful test, calling indigenous production of modern weapon systems a clear demonstration of national capability, resolve, and institutional competence. He said the achievement had further reinforced national defence and supported Pakistan’s responsible defence policy aimed at regional stability.
The president commended the efforts and sense of national service shown by the scientists, engineers, and PAF officers and personnel, terming the milestone a significant step toward greater self-reliance in defence.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif likewise congratulated the PAF, saying the successful test would further strengthen Pakistan’s defence capabilities, according to state-run Radio Pakistan.
