The Pakistan Navy has promoted four senior officers — Tasawar Iqbal, Muhammad Umair, Shahid Wasif and Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar — from the rank of Commodore to Rear Admiral.
The newly promoted flag officers bring extensive operational, command, staff and academic experience accumulated during decades of service in the Pakistan Navy. Their careers include command of frontline warships and naval formations, senior appointments at Naval Headquarters, training institutions and overseas assignments.
Rear Admiral Tasawar Iqbal
Rear Admiral Tasawar Iqbal joined the Pakistan Navy’s Operations Branch after receiving his commission in 1995.
He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore and the National Defence University in Islamabad. His professional military education also includes the Inter Services Staff Course completed in France.
Throughout his naval career, Rear Admiral Tasawar Iqbal has held a range of important command and staff positions. His appointments have included Commanding Officer of PNS ALAMGIR, Commander 25th Destroyer Squadron and Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy. He also served overseas as Senior Pakistan Navy Officer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Rear Admiral Tasawar Iqbal is currently serving as Commander West.
In recognition of his distinguished services to the Pakistan Navy, he has been decorated with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).
Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair
Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair was commissioned into the Operations Branch of the Pakistan Navy in 1996.
His professional education includes studies at the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore and the National Defence University in Islamabad. He also attended the Communication Command Course in China and completed a Naval Staff College Course in the United States.
Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair has accumulated extensive experience through several sea command and staff assignments. During his career, he has commanded PNS QUWWAT, PNS TARIQ and PNS TABUK.
He has also served as Commander of the 14th Destroyer Squadron, adding formation-level leadership experience to his record of operational commands.
Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif
Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif entered the Operations Branch of the Pakistan Navy in 1996.
He graduated from the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore and the National Defence University in Islamabad. His international military education includes the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom, along with a Master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London.
He also completed the Defence and Strategic Studies Course in Australia and earned a Master’s degree in International Relations from Deakin University, Australia.
Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif currently serves as Commander 25th Destroyer Squadron in Karachi.
For his meritorious service, he has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).
Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar
Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar was commissioned into the Pakistan Navy’s Operations Branch in 1996.
He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore and the National Defence University in Islamabad. He also completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom and holds a Master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London.
His operational career includes command of several Pakistan Navy vessels, including PNS ZARRAR, PNS SHAMSHEER and PNS ZULFIQUAR. He has also served as Commander of the 10th Patrol Craft Squadron.
Beyond sea commands, Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar has held several senior staff, diplomatic and training appointments. He served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, Naval Advisor of Pakistan in New Delhi, India, and Deputy Commandant of the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore.
He is currently serving as Naval Secretary at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad.
Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar has received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-Basalat in recognition of his services.
